A legacy of innovation, engineering excellence, and transformative technology
The Origins
Founded as “Meridional Meccanica” by Angelo Pertosa, the company began its journey producing agricultural machinery, including a complete range of trailers.
Entering the Railway Sector
Meridional Meccanica entered the railway market by developing specialized “yellow vehicles” designed for maintenance and renewal operations.
MERMEC Foundation
Meridional Meccanica officially rebrands as MERMEC and transitions into a joint-stock company, with all business activities now fully dedicated to the railway market.
Pioneering Optoelectronics
MERMEC boosts its R&D efforts by focusing on optoelectronics, a key enabling technology for creating a new generation of systems designed for precise, non-contact measurement of railway infrastructure.
A New Era Begins
The first non-contact track geometry measuring system is commercially launched, marking the beginning of MERMEC’s unique portfolio of innovative solutions for measuring and inspecting railway infrastructure.
First Overseas Deployment
MERMEC delivers its first comprehensive measuring vehicle to Jernbaneverket, the Norwegian Railways, becoming the sole global supplier capable of designing and developing “turn-key” measurement vehicle.
“Archimede” Measuring Train
MERMEC delivers the “Archimede” train to Italian Railways, the first of its kind in Europe. Powered entirely by MERMEC technology, it can travel at 220 km/h and measure over 140 parameters simultaneously.
Maintenance Made Simple
MERMEC launches RAMSYS, a modular software platform using decision support engines and predictive modeling for planning short- to long-term railway infrastructure maintenance and renewal (M&R) works.
Switzerland Chooses Italy
MERMEC delivers a comprehensive diagnostic vehicle to Swiss Federal Railways, integrating new state-of-the-art technology for precise tunnel inspections.
Entering the Signaling Market
MERMEC changes its DNA and starts developing a new SIL4 Automatic Train Protection (ATP) signaling system for Italian Railways, marking its entry into the signaling market.
The MERMEC Group is born
MERMEC completes the acquisition of Tecnogamma (Italy), Imagemap (USA), and Inno-Tech (France), forming the MERMEC Group.
World record
MERMEC leads in cutting-edge high-speed railway technology, with nearly 90% of the world’s high-speed measuring trains equipped with MERMEC solutions.
Measurement as a Service
MERMEC enters the measurement services business with its HRT-260 hi-rail diagnostic vehicle, featuring six systems for comprehensive railway infrastructure assessment.
MERMEC Hits a New High
MERMEC delivers its 500th measuring system, reinforcing its leadership in the global railway diagnostic market.
MERMEC joins UNISIG
MERMEC Group becomes a UNISIG Member, joining an exclusive group of global leaders in developing ERTMS/ETCS technical specifications.
